The Guest Bathroom Remodel

Okay - so my friends have inspired me to keep a blog. Yeah, Facebook is nice, but it's such a short soundbite that every once in a while, you just need to put everything out there. So, here I go again, giving my blog another go.

Tomorrow is my 33rd birthday! I can truly tell you that I am very excited. I never would have expected my life to be where it is today. My love, Brian, and I have been together for almost seven months and the time just seems to race by. He'll be taking me out to see Eclipse for my birthday, so I thank him in advance for knowing that I don't ever expect him to measure up to Edward or Jacob ... that's just simply unreasonable.

So, what else am I doing on my birthday? That's a great question! In the morning, I'll be taking sledgehammer to vanity and demolishing my guest bathroom! The fiberglass tub has had some hairline cracks which I've been able to fix ... until the BIG ONE. CRACK!!! One big hole + plaid duct tape to cover said hole = guest bathroom remodel. See kids, you really do use math outside of school!

I did have to hire a company to demo the tub and surround and to install the new tub and fixtures, but other than that, it's all me and a few of my closest friends. I've purchased everything so far except for the vanity and toilet, and the backerboard and backerboard screws. I'm actually quite excited. Here's a preview of what it should look like, thanks to the floor at Home Depot. I'll be posting further updates as the week progresses.

Enjoy!

Fabric of my life

Yes, I know. It's been a while ... a long while. A quick update - no more roommate, Jake is one year old and a terror ;-), and I am finally simplifying my home! I've got the craft room pretty much where I want it. In fact, I actually used the sewing machine the other day and mended a shirt I really like. I went to JoAnn fabrics and found some great upholstery fabric that is on sale for 50% off and am thinking I have to re-upholster the glider rocker cushions and/or make some pillows for the couch and/or make a reversible tote bag! I just can't decide! I'd better decide something before 09/12, because that's when the sale on the fabric is over.

77 Degrees

It's January 16, 2009. It was 77 degrees today. This does not bode well for the 2009 summer months in the desert! But, to put things in perspective, I talked with my dad today and he mentioned it was about 10 degrees where he is in Virginia. Yeah, I'll take 77 degrees. Oh - and I wore shorts today.

Another Roommate

If you can believe it, I have another roommate! It's my good friend, Charley, who I've know for 11 years and visited in Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. It's nice to actually have another person in the house. Of course, I was able to get the guest room flooring done and the decor is brown, blue and green. I'm quite impressed by my ability to put colors together! I have two Ansel Adams prints on the wall that mom picked up for me at a yard sale and a picture I took at Yellowstone of a bison walking down the middle of the road in Lamar Valley. I want to get another poster frame for one of the Ansel Adams, then I'm good to go. All that will be left for that room is a quick coat or two of semi-gloss white paint for the closet trim and shelf and purchase new closet doors. Of course, I still have to put in baseboards, but that will happen when I do the whole house.

The next room on the agenda is the craft room. I need to put a coat or two of primer over a dark maroon wall and then paint the rest. This one shouldn't take too long to paint. I need to make sure I have enough paint for it, but I'm pretty sure I bought enough.

That's all for now. I'll post pictures when I get the chance.

Four-legged fur ball

When I got the picture message from my Mom, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Was that a black kitten in her arms? One phone call to her and I was in my car driving to the scene of the incident.

Come to find out, a little black kitten was dropped in my Mom and Fitz's backyard, underneath their window, and in a space between boxes about 8" wide and 2' long. Supposedly, the momma cat must have gotten spooked and left the kitten there for safekeeping. He meowed most of the night and, when Fitz went to investigate, found the pour little guy.

A trip to Petsmart to purchase kitten milk mix to bottle feed and they were on their way. Of course, their cat, Sam, wanted NOTHING to do with the little guy. Plus, Mom and Fitz were leaving to go see my nephew in the morning. So, I offered to "foster" the kitten knowing full well what would end up happening.

I would like to introduce you to the newest member of the Deacon four-legged clan: Jake Maguire Fitzpatrick Deacon. It's a mouthful, but with what he's already been through, I'm sure he can live up to his name!

Tap, Tap, Tap

Yeah, that's what I'm hearing...even in my sleep! The initial process of getting the new flooring down was a pain in the derriere! Now that we've got it going a bit, it's looking really great. Quite a bit of moving furniture, laying down the underlayment, snapping in the flooring, cutting it to fit, keeping Sadie away from the spacers...loads of fun!

Where has the time gone?

What? It's been over a year since I've blogged on this site? I can't believe I'm still taking up server space and they've allowed me to do that for all of this time! Well, I appreciate it, blogger.

A lot's happened in the "over a year" since I've blogged. I've become a momma to an adorable dog, I'm now an Auntie, and will be an Auntie again in December. I'm working on getting my photography business off the ground - I just need weekends to be able to shoot!

I'm redoing my flooring in my house, living in a concrete jungle and am going crazy! I have a 16 year old helping me and I'm being asked at work why I don't just hire it done. One Executive even had the balls to say, "Don't we pay you enough here? Just hire it done!" Needless to say, I told him I wanted to retire a millionaire and I can't do that if I just hire out the help I need.

Here's a recent picture of me and the pup - Sadie Grace - for your viewing pleasure!
